Welcome to WILLEM SMITH.

It all began with our desire to conceive exciting and elegant designs that highlighted form, proportion and the spectacular characteristics of our woods.  The objective was to present a look that was thoroughly fresh yet paid homage to those historical elements that resonated with us.  We strove for élan rather than attitude, without compromising on spirit and zip.  And, not incidentally, our chairs had to be comfy and table legs couldn’t get in the way: our pieces had to make sense.

In partnership with some of the most talented cabinetmakers in the world, we created sumptuous patterns with highly-figured veneers and meticulously sculpted solid wood for legs, coves and edges.  We called on artisans to hand-cast and patina our bronze pulls, accents and feet.  We asked the most respected names in wood finishes to make our surfaces dance.  And here we are.

You may notice that all of our furniture displays the WILLEM SMITH inlay.  Indeed in addition to affixing our name inside your drawer, we proudly sign every piece of our furniture with our trademarked inlay pattern: you can spot it discreetly tucked in a cove, nestled in an edge or subtly decorating a panel.  Whenever you discover our distinctive signature, be assured that the provenance of the piece of one of integrity, from the fundamentals of the design to the traditions of old world, bench-made cabinetry.

Given the overwhelming array of considerations to juggle in the search for your ideal piece, we developed WILLEM SMITH’s 20-5-1 Perspective.  We encourage our clients to objectively assess furniture from 20 feet, 5 feet and 1 foot using our suggested criteria.  20-5-1 is intended to bolster your confidence to select the piece that will give you the greatest satisfaction for years to come.
