Furniture Care
WILLEM SMITH furniture is designed and built with the intent to deliver
pride of ownership for generations. While common
sense should be your guide, below are a few suggested practices for
the proper maintenance of your WILLEM SMITH furniture.
Environment
- Temperature and humidity can warp or split your wood furniture.
The ideal temperature is around 70 degrees (21 C) with relative humidity
of 40%.
- Blocking sunlight with drapes, etc. will prevent bleaching effects
on wood and finishes.
- Always use coasters, hot pads or table pads. Make sure placemats
and tablecloths are made of soft fabric.
- Do not wait to clean up spills. Liquids left on surfaces
may cause the finish to peel, flake and stain.
- Plastic feet on computers, calculators, telephones, etc. contain
a plasticizing agent that may discolor or soften the finish on fine
furniture. Felt pads are recommended under these items.
- Dragging or sliding items such as lamps, cardboard boxes, ashtrays
can cause permanent scratches of finish. Insure coasters have felt
bottoms or pads.
- Vacuuming around the legs should be done carefully to prevent dents,
scratches and scuffs to the wood or bronze finish.
Cleaning
- Regularly dust your wood furniture to prevent dust buildup and
maintain its finish. Always dust with the grain of the wood, not
in a circular motion.
- Avoid using products that contain silicone waxes, lemon oil, or
other oily polishes on your furniture since it may damage the finish.
- Never use window cleaning products as polish.
